Modern Sino-Canada Science and Technology City is located in South City District, Xiantao City that is the backyard of Wuhan City and recognized as the Star City among the " 8 +1" satellite cities in Hubei province. It lies to the south of Hurong Highway (Hanyi, extended from Weiyi Road to Weiqi Road at both sides of Xianpeng Road). It is only five minutes' drive from Hurong Highway at Xiantao exit, and is on the path from Wuhan to "8 +1" satellite cities by inter-city railway.

Xiantao city is located in subtropical monsoon area with four distinct seasons, abundant rainfall, sunshine and mild climate. There are also occasional droughts, floods, cold waves, wind, hail and other severe weather occurrence. Solar energy resources are abundant with the annual average sunshine of 1934.8 hour. Annual average temperature is about 16.5oC. There are dramatic temperature changes in spring and autumn.

Xiantao city is close to the big city of Wuhan in central China. It has unique location advantages of connecting north with south and east with west. Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway (running through the north and south) and Shanghai-Chengdu Expressway (running through the west and east) intersect in the vicinity of Xiantao City. Han-Yi Railway has been started to build, with a passenger terminal in north Xiantao and a cargo terminal in north of Sanfutan. With the imminent completion of Suizhou-Yueyang highway, there are two entrances and exits within Xiantao City area. Outer metropolitan ring road and rail transportation in Wuhan have also been put on the agenda. Xiantao port on Haniiang River has been listed as major construction project in "Eleventh Five-Year Plan". Upon completion, it will become an important hub port in the middle and lower reaches of the Hanjiang River.

Currently, the focus of urban development of Xiantao is at its south region, also taking into account of the west and east regions with the future vision towards the north of the city. Xiantao urban development planning can be summarized as "four axis, four centers, and five regions".
